Reasons for Leveraging Agrivoltaics
There are many uses for agrivoltaics in the Finger Lakes, Southern Tier, and Western regions of New York. How will your farm or solar development company leverage solar power?
01
Eliminate Electric Costs
Eliminate the rising and sometimes volitile costs associated with electricity. Kick the electric bill to the curb and say goodbye to that unnecessary monthly expense.
02
Extend Growing Seasons
Leverage the slightly warmer temperatures beneath the panels to extend growing seasons. Planting frost sensitive crops beneath the solar panels can increase crop yield.
03
Produce Income
Produce income by selling excess electricity back to the utility. By remaining grid-tied, your agrivoltaic system enables you to do this. When farms partner with solar development companies, both benefit.
04
Increase Shade Crops
Increasing the production of shade loving crops is an obvious use for agrivoltaics. In the face of rising temperatures, increased shade is a true farming asset.
05
Shade for Livestock
Increased temperatures mean added stress for livestock. Solar panels can reduce that stress by providing a shady reprieve during hot summer days.
06
Reduce Water Consumption
Solar panels shield the soil, thereby protecting it from the full strength of the sun and sometimes, the wind. The result is reduced water consumption.

Federal Tax Credits
The Investment Tax Credit (ITC) provides a 30% tax credit equal for the cost of a solar panel system. Alternatively, the Production Tax Credit (PTC) is available. Projects can also qualify for bonus credits.
Additional Incentives
Above the 30% credit provided by the ITC, the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) includes additional incentives that can increase the tax credit a for qualifying farm.
Equipment Depreciation
Solar panels are classified by the IRS as 5-year property. As such, the cost of an agrivoltaic system can be depreciated.
NYSERDA, NY-SUN
NYSERDA, via the NY-SUN program, offers grant and financing options via NYSERDA qualified contractors. Ask our consultant about these and other grant incentives.
